Kosgoda Turtle Hatchery

Turtles are reptiles of the order Cheloniid. Chelonians are characterized by the special bony shell or carapace, which is developed from their ribs and acts as a shield.

The Turtle Care Centre at Kosgoda beach is one of 18 turtle hatcheries along the southern coast of Sri Lanka. The centre is located in the southwestern coastal village of Kosgoda and was established in 1981. It is also very popular as all five species of turtles that visit Sri Lanka to nest in Kosgoda. The Kosgoda Turtle Care centre is a great place to learn and love nature while also having fun.

Famous Kothduwa Island Temple

Kothduwa Temple is a Buddhist temple situated on Kothduwa Island on the Madu River. This is a very popular tourist destination due to its location. The Madu River is known for its rich biodiversity, especially the mangroves. The Bodhi tree on the temple grounds is a sapling of the Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi, which is believed to be the oldest tree in the world to be planted by a human.
